Meet Roberto — a thoughtful and creative senior from Lansing, Michigan, whose time at Michigan State University has been shaped by curiosity, storytelling and a deep commitment to community. Majoring in English, Creative Writing and Sociology with a minor in Environmental Social Science, Roberto is dual enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Science; and is a proud member of the Honors College. He is honored to represent Michigan State University on the 2026 Homecoming Court.
Roberto’s MSU experience reflects the power of exploration and opportunity. Through programs like the Social Science Scholars Program and the Citizen Scholars Program, he has embraced an interdisciplinary approach to learning that blends creativity with social insight. His involvement in initiatives such as Campus Compact and the Newman Fellowship has further deepened his commitment to community engagement and meaningful impact.
For Roberto, MSU stands out for its ability to offer countless pathways for students to shape their own unique journeys. He values the flexibility and support that allows students like himself to pursue their passions while building connections across disciplines and communities. One of his favorite places on campus, the Social Science Scholars room in Berkey Hall, represents both an academic home and a space where ideas, collaboration and belonging come together.
Looking ahead, Roberto aspires to write and publish a creative fiction novel, using storytelling as a way to explore identity, community and the human experience. He is especially passionate about uplifting first-generation and minority students, as well as encouraging engagement in education abroad and community-based learning opportunities.
As a Homecoming Court representative, Roberto is excited to give back to the university that has offered him so many opportunities, while inspiring others to pursue their own paths with confidence and purpose. He hopes to encourage the next generation of Spartans to step into leadership and embrace the possibilities around them.
