Meet AhJanae — a determined and purpose-driven senior from Detroit, Michigan, whose journey at Michigan State University has been shaped by resilience, leadership and a deep commitment to representation. A Civil Engineering major in the College of Engineering, AhJanae is passionate about creating pathways for others while building a future rooted in impact. She is honored to represent Michigan State University on this year’s Homecoming Court.

As a first-generation college student, AhJanae has embraced every opportunity to grow both academically and personally at MSU. Through her involvement on campus, she has developed a strong foundation in leadership, service and advocacy — particularly for students from marginalized backgrounds. Her experiences have fueled her dedication to expanding access and representation in STEM fields, while uplifting the voices of those who are often underrepresented in higher education.

AhJanae’s time at MSU has been grounded in both discipline and community. She credits spaces like the Anthony Hall study loft — where she has spent countless hours studying and connecting with peers — as instrumental to her success. For her, MSU is a place where opportunity becomes impact, where students are empowered to discover their purpose and where the simple exchange of “Go Green” and “Go White” reflects a powerful sense of belonging.

Following graduation, AhJanae plans to pursue a career in pipeline engineering within the oil and gas industry, focusing on the design, safety and reliability of infrastructure systems. Beyond her professional goals, she is deeply committed to mentorship and hopes to one day establish a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating access and opportunity for first-generation students and students of color. Her vision is to not only succeed in her field, but to open doors for others along the way.

As a Homecoming Court representative, AhJanae is excited to give back to the university that has shaped her while connecting with students, faculty and alums throughout Homecoming week and beyond. She hopes to serve as a source of inspiration and representation, reminding others that they belong in every space they step into.

Your background, your journey and your voice matter especially in spaces where they haven’t always been represented. Continue to uplift one another, lead with intention and create opportunities not just for yourself, but for those coming after you. That’s what it truly means to be a Spartan. Go Green!
