Linda Hubbard: Distinguished Alumni Award

Linda Hubbard | B.A., Eli Broad College of Business, 1982

Linda Hubbard, president and CEO of Carhartt Inc., is a trailblazing executive and proud Spartan whose journey from a first-generation college student to one of the most influential leaders in the apparel industry began at Michigan State University. Linda is the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award, one of the highest honors MSU bestows upon its graduates, in recognition of her transformative leadership, industry achievements and unwavering service to her alma mater.

A 1982 graduate of the Eli Broad College of Business with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Linda credits MSU as the foundation of her personal and professional life. “As I reflect on my time at MSU, I realize that everything I am now — personally and professionally — ties back to my time at MSU,” she said. “From meeting my husband to preparing me for my career, it all points back.” That deep connection has shaped her values and fueled a lifetime of Spartan engagement.

Linda made history as the first woman and first non-family member to lead Carhartt in its 135-year existence. Under her leadership, the global workwear brand has expanded its reach and redefined its legacy. She spearheaded the development of Carhartt’s first-ever women’s line and guided the company through the COVID-19 pandemic, pivoting production to create millions of masks and gowns for frontline workers. Her commitment to inclusivity and purpose-driven innovation has positioned Carhartt as a modern, value-forward company with deep roots.

In addition to her business accomplishments, Linda has remained an engaged and generous Spartan. She served on the 2018 MSU Presidential Search Committee and is a current member of both the MSU Research Foundation Board and the Broad College of Business Alumni Advisory Board. She has shared her insights and experiences with students as a commencement speaker in both 2019 and 2022 and continues to mentor rising Spartan leaders with authenticity and care.

Linda’s impact extends far beyond the boardroom. She serves on the Federal Reserve Bank’s Chicago/Detroit Branch Board and the board of the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy. Nationally recognized for her leadership, she is celebrated for breaking barriers for women in business and redefining what inclusive leadership looks like.
