Starting early Saturday morning and ending when Tom Izzo wakes up on Sunday, the Izzone Campout is 24 hours of students showing their devotion to MSU basketball in hopes of securing tickets to the vaunted lower bowl of the Breslin Center.
First held in 1996, the Izzone Campout was and is always in the center of Munn Field, in the shadows of Spartan Stadium, Munn Ice Arena and the Breslin Center.
The campout typically begins a few days before the first home game of the season, with students setting up tents in the early afternoon. The students must stay within Munn Field and be present for periodic check-ins to secure their standing as Izzone members, and seats in the lower bowl of the stadium.
Basketball hoops, inflatable Spartys, games and a DJ create a frenetic atmosphere that keeps students up and about for practically the entire night.
The first student to arrive for the campout is typically awarded a special prize, such as a signed basketball from the team. The campout has become a beloved tradition among MSU students, with many returning year after year to secure their lower bowl standing in the Izzone.
After a short hiatus in 2020 due to COVID, the 25th Izzone Campout returned to massive fanfare in 2021, as a record setting 5000 memberships were sold.

Becoming an Izzone member
The Izzone membership cost for the 2022-23 academic year was $55. That fee included an official Izzone T-shirt, as well as the opportunity to earn two Izzone points and the ability to retain lifetime points. Additionally, members are invited to the Izzone Campout.
Being a member of the Izzone offers a range of benefits, including exclusive merchandise, discounted game tickets, and special events.
What’s it all for?
The campout is a test of endurance and commitment for Izzone members—current and prospective—as they must brave the elements and fend for themselves while waiting for Coach Izzo and the men’s basketball team to make their appearances.
