In the world of veterinary orthopedics, few names command as much respect as Gretchen Flo: one of the first women in history to become a veterinary orthopedic surgeon, who developed her own set of surgical procedures, now universally referred to as “the Flo technique.”
A 1966 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine, she spent her entire professional surgery and academic career with her alma mater, mentoring thousands of students and veterinary professionals, giving animals and their grateful human companions a new lease on life, and vastly improving the field of veterinary orthopedic surgery along the way.
In 2013, she established the Gretchen Flo Veterinary Orthopedics Fund, to, in her words, “ensure young veterinarians who are committed to orthopedics have access to opportunities to develop into outstanding surgeons.”
To mark her official retirement in 2022, friends, mentees, and colleagues are honoring Dr. Flo’s 50+ years of active clinical service, teaching, and research, by giving to the Flo Fund and expanding its capacity to provide support to the new generation of veterinary orthopedic surgeons.
