Student Spotlights: Hady Omar

Hady Omar is a second-year student currently studying human biology in the College of Natural Sciences. Hady chose to attend MSU because of the pre-med program that provides numerous opportunities for students to advance in their personal areas of interest.

Beyond the classroom, Hady is a part of many organizations on campus. He holds leadership positions in the following organizations: the Arab Culture Society as vice-president, the Refugee Outreach Collective as treasurer, ASMSU as the College of Natural Science representative, the Honors Students Actively Recruiting and is a peer mentor and chemistry academic coach. Outside of his studies and extracurricular, Hady is a Drew Scholar, a research assistant on the Physics Education Research Lab and an intern at MSU Pediatrics.

He is extremely passionate about helping unserved communities with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Most of his research is based on DEI, and he feels it's important to help diversify STEM fields such as medicine. Hady recently presented his research at the 5th Annual Diversity Research Showcase at the Honors college. His presentation was titled “Understanding the Impact of the Charles Drew Science Scholars Program”. When asked why he chose to conduct research on that program, he said, “As a Drew Scholar, I am interested in seeing why the program is successful. The research I partake in does exactly that! Education research is imperative for our future in academic enhancement of DEI.”
