Marissa Burk is a senior from Naperville, Illinois studying accounting in the Eli Broad College of Business. She also has a Spanish minor and is a member of the Honors College. Through the Honors College, she has served as both president and liaison of the Honors College Activities Board, as well as a Green Team mentor. In these roles, she has used her leadership to create a sense of community among Honors College members. Burk currently serves as a Student Supervisor for the MSU Tours program, where she is responsible for creating instructional training material and assessing the effectiveness of tour guide training. She is also an undergraduate learning assistant for the Residential Business Community, where she mentors new business students and has worked as the Corporate Relations Champion to schedule professional networking and information events. In addition, she assisted first year students on navigating campus and helped plan events for students as a peer mentor for the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities. As someone with life-threatening food allergies, Burk is passionate about raising awareness for different types of disabilities. She has hosted a food allergy-focused “Instagram Takeover” for Eat at State and the RCPD, contributed to a press release for Eat at State showcasing the opening and success of MSU’s newest dining hall, Thrive, and most recently, was interviewed by Allergic Living, an e-magazine, for an article entitled, “Colleges That Go the Distance for Students with Food Allergies”. She has dedicated much of her time at MSU to helping new students and students with disabilities get acquainted to campus and adjusting to university life.
