LOOKING FOR A CAREER CHANGE?

Over the years, I’ve touted a variety of benefits available to members of the MSU Alumni Association, including the opportunity to support Michigan State. We now offer some 65 benefits (visit www.msualum.com). One of them, obviously, is this magazine. Many others are money-saving discounts on just about everything you might use—rental cars, moving expenses, MSU spirit merchandise, MSU events like Homecoming and Kaleidoscope, and away-game tailgate lunches. One service we provide to members that more and more are using is our entire package of career services.

Under the direction of Patrick Scheetz, the MSUAA has developed a complete range of services to help you write resumes, critique your resume, post resumes, search for job postings, and find many resources needed for a successful job search. They can all be found in our webpage’s Alumni Career Center (www.msualum.com/careers). “We find that more and more alumni are either looking for new jobs or seeking a career change,” explains Scheetz, who formerly directed MSU’s Collegiate Employment Research Institute and assisted with the supervision of MSU’s Career Services and Placement. “Our web-based career center provides MSUAA members with a one-stop area to meet all their career-advising needs. ”

In addition, MSUAA members can receive personal help and advice from Scheetz when writing resumes and even handling employment interviews. Our resume database and online job listings can help MSU alums throughout the world. “We’ve had great success placing Spartans, often with other Spartans,” says Scheetz. “We recently helped someone take the right steps in seeking a new career, and within a week she found her dream job.”

With the current economic and political uncertainties clouding the future, more of you probably are seeking these services than at any other time. At least now you know where to go for help.
