A great time to be green

Celebrating another season of endless Spartan spirit

Nick McLaren

Here we are, Spartans, at the end of another school year. And what a spring it’s been! A huge congratulations goes out to our 2026 graduates, who walked across the stage and, in a moment, went from students to alums. It’s always an inspiring thing to be part of.

Equally inspiring were our speakers, University Distinguished Professor Ann Austin, Founder and Principal of Agentic Connect, Christopher Fernandez (’93, ’94), and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (’83). I want to personally thank each of them for sharing their Spartan stories on such an important day for our graduates.

Earlier this spring, we celebrated some passionate Spartans at our Volunteer Summit, which welcomed over 125 alumni club and campaign volunteers from across the country. It was a chance for the group to reconnect with campus, share with each other and take new ideas home to make a difference in their local Spartan communities.

Service and community engagement have long been important parts of the alumni experience. As a Spartan, you’re part of a club of more than 550,000 partners. Numbers like that mean we can bring a lot of positivity to the world. With clubs all over the country and around the globe, MSU makes it easy to seek out fellow alums and do some good in your hometowns. Visit go.msu.edu/FindClub to find Spartans near you.

There’s a lot more to come this season and throughout the summer. Even with the students on break, campus is an active place. From Summer Circle Theatre productions to our annual Spartan Reunion, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained.

But as the school year closes and we celebrate our students, just know that none of this is possible without you. Your support and enthusiasm for the future of MSU is felt by Spartans near and far, and it’s an honor to call you one of us.

Hope to see you around campus soon. Go Green!
