Among the thousands of books that pass through the MSU Surplus Store each week, one recent discovery stopped staff in their tracks: a 1672 Latin theology text titled "Theologia Moralis," by Austrian Jesuit Paul Laymann (1574-1635).
One of the leading Catholic moralists of his day, Laymann taught theology across Bavaria and Austria and produced dozens of influential works. His “Theologia Moralis” became a cornerstone text for Catholic seminaries and was reprinted for over a century.
Now preserved in MSU’s Special Collections, the rare find highlights the surplus store’s dual mission — uncovering hidden treasures while giving books, artifacts and memories new life for Spartans and collectors alike.
