MSU Opera Theatre presented Gioachino Rossini’s La Cenerentola March 26–30 at Fairchild Theatre as part of its Worthington Family Foundation Opera Theatre Season.
Directed by MSU Professor of Voice Melanie Helton and conducted by Katherine Kilburn, the production was a Cinderella-like tale with heart, humor and Rossini’s signature bel canto brilliance.
Sung in Italian with English surtitles, the opera featured standout performances and the triumphant aria “Non più mesta.”
Set in the Italian countryside, the story emphasized love, resilience and transformation. Audiences were also treated to pre-show lectures offering insights into the opera’s themes and history, enriching the experience for newcomers and aficionados alike.
