2023 Homecoming Recap

SPARTANS WERE WELCOMED HOME

MSU alumni are known for their global impact. Students come from all corners of the globe and, after graduation, go on to make an impact in countless industries and locations. Every graduate has written their own story, with their own unique accomplishments. But whatever the future holds, there's one thing that unites all Spartans: coming home. We saw this same enthusiasm and drive come to life in various ways by MSU units, departments and student groups in their parade entries.

Whether you made it back home to campus or participated virtually, we hope you enjoyed the celebrations.

HOMECOMING PARADE

The 2023 Homecoming Parade took place Sept. 22 and featured 116 entries. Did you miss the parade or want to rewatch it? Check out the livestream and photos from the parade.

Parade participants walked, rode, rolled and flipped their way through the streets of East Lansing while thousands of spectators watched. 

A panel of judges voted for the 2023 parade winners in the following categories:

• Best Float – The State News 
• Best Banner – Student Biodome Project
• Best Group – International Student Association 

• Best Spartan Spirit – MSU Rodeo Club
• Best Community Group – MSU Alumni Band
• Best Campus Department – Department of Geography, Environment & Spatial Sciences

 This year’s Homecoming Parade would not have been possible without the help of Spartan volunteers — alumni, students and staff, and the participation of the Spartan community. 

HOMECOMING GRAND MARSHAL

MSU welcomed home Molly Brennan as this year’s Homecoming Grand Marshal. Molly is a Spartan with both academic and athletic legacies. She was an engineering group manager for General Motors, where she won the first World Solar Challenge, setting four solar and electric land speed records in the Guinness Book of World Records.

KEDZIE REUNION 

We welcomed home the class of 1973 for the 50-year Kedzie Reunion during Homecoming week and reminisced on their days at Michigan State University. These Spartans enjoyed a day full of activities across campus, with more events this year to look forward to.

HOMECOMING GIVING INITIATIVE

In celebration of our Grand Marshal, the Spartan community is coming together to support transformational scholarships, programs and initiatives inspired by Molly's unique journey as a Spartan. 

Spartan raised $4,500 in support of this initiative and there is still time to raise more!
