SPARTAN ALUMNUS RECOGNIZED AS FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY DISTINGUISHED STAFFER

Ferris State University recently recognized Okemos native and Michigan State University alumnus Ted Halm with a Distinguished Staff Award, for his varied and consistent excellence in service to the university, and Big Rapids community.
Halm is the university’s Web Content Manager, and oversaw the redesign of Ferris’ website in the last year, an effort calling for collaboration with more than 100 faculty, staff and students campus wide. In more than 20 years’ service in support of the university’s online brand, Halm has chronicled the cycle of events and participants in Ferris activities by maintaining the campus calendar, and “Week in Pictures” feature page. He has also assisted many Registered Student Organizations, as well as offering mentorship to students and promoting the talents of those attending Ferris.
Halm, whose career at Ferris has spanned 36 years, began working in the Sports Information Office for the Bulldogs in 1979, winning 10 national publication awards for athletics during his time there, while developing a legacy of positive relationships with Ferris alumni. Throughout his tenure with the university, Ted has made significant contributions to councils, committees and societies.
As past president of the Big Rapids Men’s Softball Association, Halm was author of the league’s constitution and a fervent advocate for sportsmanship and camaraderie during 36 years as a team manager and player.
Halm, 62, graduated from Okemos High School in 1972, where he was a member of the jazz band. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunication. His children, Nick and Lottee, are both currently attending Ferris.
