Stantec has promoted Margie Simmons to senior vice president. Based in the Berkley office, Simmons serves as a business leader within Stantec’s Buildings group and is now responsible for its operations across the nearly 4,000-person North American practice.

“In the two years since joining Stantec, Margie has provided strong leadership to the Buildings group,” said Stanis Smith, executive vice president, Stantec. “Margie holds a unique passion and personal commitment to enhancing our levels of client and customer service, and we look forward to her continued contributions to the firm, our clients, and their projects.”

In addition to more than 20 years of experience in the architecture and engineering industry, Simmons is also an accomplished entrepreneur, marketing and business professional. In 1998, she co-founded DSA Architects, a Michigan architectural firm focused on higher education projects. Simmons led the firm through its acquisition by SHW Group in 2003 and was elected as CEO of SHW in 2010. As CEO, she was instrumental in developing SHW into one of the nation’s largest educational architecture and engineering firms and oversaw its acquisition by Stantec in 2014.

Simmons’ work has earned her recognition as one of Ernst + Young’s Entrepreneurs of the Year and as one of Crain’s Detroit Top 15 Women to Watch. She received her bachelor’s degree from the Broad College of Business in 1986.
