SPARTAN ALUMNUS NAMED CHIEF OF POLICE AT CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY

Gary D. Lewis Jr. was recently sworn in as the Chief of Police, at Cleveland State University.
Lewis began his law enforcement career with the Ohio State Highway Patrol as a member of the 122nd Academy Class in January 1992. He rose through the ranks as a sergeant in 1997, then as a lieutenant in 2001. His duties included supervising uniformed and civilian staff; operations; marketing and advertising for public awareness; response to crisis management, and handling news interviews.
In 2013, Lewis retired from the patrol before he joined The Ohio State University's media and public relations department as the senior director. At OSU, Lewis was responsible for handling aspects associated to branding the University in the media.
Lewis obtained his master's degree from Michigan State University, in Criminal Justice in 2013. Lewis is also a 2003 graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy (F.B.I.N.A.) leadership course.
