MSU DOCTORS ABOARD HOSPITAL SHIP SERVE SICK, POOR

Spartans Nicholas Michols, '13, and Ryan Buckley, '10, are completing the final year of their medical residencies as lieutenants aboard the USNS Comfort. Just days ago, they completed Continuing Promise, a several months-long mission that stopped at ports throughout the Caribbean.
Graduates of MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine, the two treated patients in Belize, Guatemala, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, Colombia, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Honduras and Haiti.
"It is such a humbling and rewarding experience," Michols said.
Michols, who completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2007, is based in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He is specializing in family medicine.
Buckley finished his undergraduate degree at Kalamazoo College in 2006 before attending MSU. He is specializing in emergency medicine and is based in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Both will get their orders for their next duty station upon graduation, according to Michols.
