MSU GRADUATE HONORED BY BUSINESS COMMUNITY

Nancy R. Kaufman, founding director of The Kaufman Children’s Center, has been awarded the 2015 Community Excellence Business Person of the Year Award from the West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce.
She has been a speech-language pathologist for 35 years. She opened the center that bears her name 23 years ago. Today, it employs 40 staff members who provide speech, language, occupational therapy, sensory integration, social skills, and autism treatment programs.
Kaufman is an expert on speech impairments related to the rhythm and timing of language.About 100 families a year from across the U.S. and around the globe are served at the center.
She serves on the professional advisory board of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA), on the board of visitors of Wayne State University’s Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Child and Family Development, and is the speech-language pathologist consultant for speech centers in Texas and New Jersey.
She earned a bachelor's degree from MSU's College of Communication Arts and Sciences in 1978, specializing in audiology and speech sciences. In 2010, she received the Outstanding Alumni Award from her college.
