MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY'S CLASS OF 2013

A new report from Michigan State University shows that more than 90 percent of its undergraduates who earned diplomas in 2013 are either gainfully employed, pursuing advanced degrees or are engaged in public service work.
The data appear in MSU's Destination Survey Report of 2013, the most recent year for which figures are available. A closer look shows 5,756 students that year completed four-year degrees. Of those, 80 percent, or 4,606, answered the survey.
Here’s a breakdown of some of the findings:
- MSU’s placement rate grew to 93 percent, up 2 percent more than the previous year
- A total of 62 percent of graduates landed jobs in Michigan; 77 percent are spread across the Midwest
- Average starting salary was $43,611, based on earnings reports provided by 1,082 respondents
- A total of 21 percent of students found their jobs through previous internships or co-op experiences, 21 percent relied on personal or family networks, 13 percent found positions through MSU’s career fair, and 10 percent were placed through the Spartan Career Center.
