SILICON VALLEY BOWL

The MSUAA’s Official Silicon Valley Bowl Tour proved to be a hit for more than 300 participants who participated in the festivities in San Jose.

"The Silicon Valley Bowl Trip was fantastic,” beams Len Roth of Los Angeles.  “The game, the New Year's Eve Party, the area tours with friendly fellow alumni—the MSU Alumni Association really did it right.  I can’t wait till the next one!"

Capped by the football team’s brilliant 44-35 win over No. 21 Fresno State, the MSUAA’s Official Bowl Tour included the MSU-Stanford basketball game in Oakland, pre-game receptions before each game, and a gala New Year’s Eve party hosted by radio personality Chris Holman of WJIM Radio.  For more coverage, visit http://www.msualum.com/events/2001/bowltour-01.

Bowl participants saw T. J. Duckett’s “last hurrah” as a Spartan.  After gaining 1,466 yards for 12 touchdowns this season,  the junior running back has decided to test the NFL.  Returning next fall are star quarterback Jeff Smoker, who threw an MSU record 21 touchdowns and led the Big Ten in efficiency, and wide receiver Charles Rogers, whose 67 receptions for 1,470 yards and 14 touchdowns one-upped the single season achievements of receivers such as Plaxico Burress, Derrick Mason, Muhsin Muhammad and Andre Rison—all productive pros now.
