Sports: Women's Season Up and Down

MSU's women's basketball team enjoyed some great successes--including a thrilling 73-72 upset of Ohio State at Columbus. By late February, the team had a four-way tie for fourth place in the Big Ten and a chance to make the NCAA tourney for the second time in Spartan history.
Karen Langeland, in her 18th season as women's head basketball coach, led her team to some impressive wins. The dean of Big Ten coaches, Langeland has guided MSU to 12 winning seasons.
Junior forward Kisha Kelley turned in an All-American type of season, averaging nearly 20 points and 9 rebounds a game, placing her in the conference's Top Five in both categories.
Junior forward Tanya Place put in strong performances, including a game-winning trey at the buzzer in Columbus.
Junior point guard Chris Powers, third in the Big Ten in assists, became just the fifth player in MSU history to have 300 career assists.
The best news is that, win or lose, the players gained tremendous experience for the future. All but one player will return next season.
